Clowns strike several suburbs over weekend

A GROUP of Mackay pranksters have tried to terrorise the streets of Mackay, dressing up as clowns, in line with the release of killer clown horror flick 'IT' in recent weeks.

After warning Mackay residents that they would be hitting Andergrove over the weekend, the clowns were seen on Sunday evening on Emperor Drive by several motorists.

A second resident claims to have seen them near Jaycee Park late in the night.

Residents have not been impressed with the online group reforming, stating in light of the recent crime wave, the fearmongering was cruel and could result in someone getting hurt.

Some motorists have threatened violence if they came across the clowns, while several concerned parents have shared that their children are losing sleep after hearing about the clowns at school.

The group first formed in 2016 and have come together again during the recent 'IT' craze, claiming to be 40 clowns strong and ready to hit the streets.

They were first spotted on Thursday night in an IGA carpark, wearing masks and jumping over car bonnets.
