Clemmensen set to be Coffs rep in Randwick final

COFFS Harbour racing is set to have a runner in the $300,000 The Country Championships final at Randwick in April after three-year-old Clemmensen won in Grafton this week.

Trainer Jim Jarvis always had a long-range plan, but there was a hiccup when the horse was beaten first-up.

However, the show is now back on the road and the campaign will continue to the $100,000 qualifier at Grafton on March 20.

"The Championship race is the dream," the Coffs Harbour trainer said.

"He's a horse that has always shown us a bit right from day one.

"The plan is to contest the Grafton qualifying race, then hopefully be good enough to reach the final."

Clemmensen, by little known American sire Any Given Saturday, failed to reach his reserve price at the Inglis ready-to-run sale and the breeder offered Jarvis and wife Kris a 50 per cent share which the couple took up.

"I haven't regretted it," Jarvis added.
