He is also a student enrolled at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, school officials said.

Kostial, who was from St. Louis, Missouri, was discovered shot eight times on Saturday morning near Sardis Lake, around 30 kilometres from campus, according to WLBT.

Few details have been released in her death, but authorities said that ""it is apparent that foul play was involved."

Surveillance footage reportedly showed Kostial on Friday night stopping at the door of an Oxford Square bar, though she didn't go inside.

Her roommates said she returned home around midnight but left their house again at some point.

It's unclear how the student ended up in a remote area with a fishing camp where she was found dead.

Her father, Keith Kostial, said that his daughter was taking summer courses and teaching fitness classes at the time of her death.

"We were visited by the police who communicated to us that our beautiful dear Alexandria (Ally) Kostial was the victim of a homicide," her father wrote Sunday in a Facebook post.

The sorority sister was working towards a degree in marketing and was expected to graduate next year.
