Classical Cosi by CHATS

CHATS Productions is staging Cosi at the Jetty Memorial Theatre.

This much-loved Australian play is set in 1971, against the backdrop of the Vietnam War and social unrest in Australia, and in a time when people’s attitudes to mental health were largely negative.

The action happens in a burnt-out theatre next to a Melbourne mental institution where newly graduated Lewis’s job is to devise recreational activities for a diverse group of patients. He is persuaded to direct the group in a production of Mozart’s famous opera, Cosi fan Tutte.

A classic of Australian theatre, Cosi is a text on the HSC reading list because its themes are as current today as when they were written.

CHATS Cosi opens July 20. Tickets on sale at box office on 6652 8088 or www.jettytheatre.com
