Miller to play Sydney Opera House

A WEEK of intense rehearsals will culminate in a sold-out show at the Sydney Opera House when former Toowoomba musician Brent Miller takes the stage this weekend.

He is one of four Australians playing in the YouTube Symphony Orchestra, which features 101 musicians from 33 different countries.

The 21-year-old timpanist already performed in a sold-out specialist percussion concert on Tuesday night at the Sydney Opera House Studio.

“It was so packed there were people sitting on the floor,” Mr Miller said.

However, the showpieces of the week promise to be the full orchestra performances, scheduled to take place tomorrow afternoon with the grand finale at 7pm (local time) on Sunday.

With some rehearsals lasting up to five hours and multiple sessions each day, Mr Miller said he was exhausted, but really enjoying his time working with international musicians.

“Because we are from vastly different schools, it is great to share our experiences and learn from each other.”

He said he had also been noticed by some renowned tutors from around the world.

Other perks of the trip have included accommodation at the Four Seasons, a Sydney Harbour Bridge climb and a new phone.

“It’s probably one of the most fun things I have done,” he said.

Sunday’s performance will be streamed live online.
