Supermarket could be opened by Christmas

WOOLGOOLGA may have a Woolworths as early as Christmas.

The derelict Raj Mahal was demolished late last year but the supermarket giant has been awaiting DA approval so construction can begin.

The early stages of the stand-alone supermarket, with around 140 car park spaces, is now under way and a spokeswoman said they expected to be finished in time for summer.

"Construction at the Woolgoolga site is still in the early stages but progressing well," the spokeswoman said.

"Subject to weather and other variables we hope to open the store prior to Christmas."

There has been much debate over the construction of the supermarket in town, however Woolworths has told the Advertiser the supermarket will create more than 100 local jobs and will be in line with Woolworths latest designs.
