Chopper crewman sends appeal

THE Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter has launched its 2011 Business Appeal.

The service aims to have as many as 500 businesses donate to the appeal by June 30.

The focus of the appeal is a letter from the chopper’s chief crewman, Roger Fry, asking businesses for their support.

“I have what I consider the best job in the world as I get to help people every day,” the letter says.

“But the worst part of my job is, as a father, when I see a child of similar age to my own who is unconscious or seriously injured and in urgent need of medical help.

“No amount of experience will ever prepare me for some of the rescue missions we go on. Or the panic-stricken parents and friends who stand by as we all try our best to make the situation better. Some of those memories may stick with me for the rest of my life.”

You can donate to the rescue helicopter by phoning 6627 4444, visiting www.helirescue.com.au or by going to any Westpac Bank.
