Chisel back in from the cold
IN A major coup for the Coffs Coast, Cold Chisel has announced its first major tour in 30 years will include Coffs Harbour as the only North Coast stop.
Cold Chisel will play at the hockey fields on Stadium Drive on Friday, November 4, as part of the Light The Nitro tour, announced today in Sydney.
“This is a major score for us,” said local promoter John Logan.
While Jimmy Barnes has played local venues many times in recent years as a soloist, Mr Logan recalls the last Cold Chisel gigs were two nights at the Plantation Hotel around 1981 or 1982.
“That was wild. Out the back of the Planto was so hot we had to borrow fans from the bakery,” he said.
“We had these giant fans blowing in from the back door and moisture dripping from the ceiling – there was no ventilation back then.”
Used previously for a John Farnham concert, the hockey fields were chosen as an outdoor location with the best local drainage.
“This has been in planning for a while and we want to give the audience some comfort and not have them traipsing through mud if it rains.
“The hockey fields are the driest surface in town and will drain away quickly, plus we can use the stadium traffic management plan and car park, avoiding the need to manage the highway.”
Bringing their own big top tent, Cold Chisel will be supported by You Am I in this all-ages gig.
Tickets are priced at $99.90 and will go on sale on August 4.
