Check your heaters for a safe winter

AS THE temperature drops, Ipswich residents are being urged to check their heating appliances before using them this winter.

Fire Minister Jo-Ann Miller said each year Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were called to many fires started from electrical appliances being misused or not maintained properly.

She said older heaters caused the most concern and it was crucial heating appliances were checked by a qualified electrician each year for fraying, exposed cords or rust.

QFES also offers a free service to assist residents with fire safety around the home.

To book a Safehome visit, phone 13QGOV (13 74 68) or visit qfes.qld.gov.au
