Chanel shines in pageant
MODEL Chanel Stewart has made her hometown proud after taking out third place in the prestigious Miss Universe Australia competition.
The Coffs Harbour local was a firm favourite in the lead-up to Friday night's final, with sportsbet.com.au touting her for the win at $4.75.
The top three placing was a spectacular effort for Chanel's first ever pageant, with the brunette beauty coming in third behind runner- up Madeline Cowe and winner Monika Radulovic.
The former Bishop Druitt College student said she was over the moon with the result.
"It's quite rare for a girl to do her first pageant and win, so coming third for me was more than I ever expected," she said.
"I kind of went in with the mindset of 'whatever happens, happens' and being happy with how far I'd already come, so coming third was just the icing on the cake for me."
She believes Monika Radulovic is more than worthy of the Miss Universe Australia title.
"She's a really beautiful, down-to-earth girl so I think she'll represent Australia well."
Chanel will continue her modelling career in the US, having recently signed with a Los Angeles-based agency.
