Chance lost for Hughes

PHILLIP Hughes is unlikely to achieve an Ashes call-up this summer after failing to score runs while playing for Australia A in Hobart yesterday.

Asked by national selectors to put his case for selection forward by producing runs, the Macksville left-hander did himself no favours when dismissed in the third over after making only two runs.

Facing second-string England paceman Chris Tremlett who was bowling with the aid of a strong breeze at his back, Hughes shuffled across the crease to a ball that held its line before edging to England captain Andrew Strauss at first slip.
