Championships chance for local girls to kick on
NORTH Coast Football's Sophie Buller and Rylee-Jayne Harrison are the local connection in the 16-player squad to represent the Northern NSW Select team at the Westfield National Youth Championships for Girls.
The tournament begins this Monday at C.ex International Stadium and the NNSW squad has undergone a two-month preparation with skills sessions, trial matches and a training camp held in Newcastle in the lead-up.
Coach Matt Endemi said he is extremely excited about the opportunity for the girls and is pleased with his side's work ethic.
"The team has been preparing nicely with two recent games against the NNSW under-13 team and the under-12 Mid North Coast boys team in Taree," he said.
"Not only have the girls developed their skills throughout their training but great friendships have been formed.
"This has helped produce some handy combinations on the playing field.
"I expect the girls to play a fast open style of football during the nationals with some good effective possession.
"As a coach, I am happy with the preparation and the dedication of the players and wish them all the best at the championships.
"Hopefully, they can get to show off their ability on the big stage."
The first matches kick off at 9am on Monday, with the U13s and U15s played simultaneously on two separate fields.
NNSW Football kicks off the campaign with the U15s taking on Victoria at 9am.
The Select team will face Capital Football at 11.50am and U13s play Football West at 2.40pm.
The presentation of medallions and trophies will take place at 5.30pm on Friday.
