Suns return to defend State League title
COFFS Harbour Suns women's team have the go-ahead to defend their State League banner after their nomination for the 2015 competition was approved.
State League will not get underway until at least March and the plan is for the Suns squad to assemble at the end of this month to commence preparations.
Title winning coach Connie Woods and inspirational player Bonnie Kuchel have been tireless in their efforts to ensure the continuity of the program was not broken.
While the composition of the team was far from finalised, the recent return to town of some prominent former Suns and the rumoured arrival of others gave the working committee confidence that a competitive team can be assembled.
The team and Coffs Harbour Basketball Association have agreed the 2015 campaign will be waged without the services of an import player.
CHBA has asked the State League working committee to ensure they were able to meet rigorous criteria relating to playing personnel, coaching staff, financial support and supply of referees to meet competition requirements.
All have been satisfied, giving the team the chance it deserves to defend its title.
Unfortunately, the problems of recent years keeping the men's team as a viable proposition have not eased and a decision has been made not to compete at State League level this season.
