Ready to shake up U-18s

BISHOP Druitt College head of sport Paul Chambers and former representative star Danny Doolan have been elevated to the VB Gold Group 2 coaching panel.

Chambers will take charge of the under-18 squad and prepare them for the Oxley Pioneers trials series while the retired Macksville halfback was chosen by the Group’s management committee as his second-in-command.

They will replace Peter Barrett and assistant Tony Hill.

“Paul’s credentials are very, very impressive and we actually decided at the start of 2010 that we’d like him to stick around for a future role with the side,” chief administrator Jim Anderson said.

“In Danny, he’s got probably the best backstop in the business as he’s got an extraordinary knowledge of the game and has seen most of the players eligible for selection since around the time they first started out in mini-league.”

Chambers will take his time settling into the role.

“I think it would be advantageous to get together with the management team over the next few days to go through some of the organisational things including the dates and contacts,” he said.
