C.ex hosting military bands for Army Thunder league visit

TWO OF Australia's finest military bands are coming to the Coffs Coast to perform in conjunction with the Sgt Matthew Locke MG Memorial rugby league weekend in Bellingen.

The Australian Army Band Newcastle, formed as part of the Newcastle Volunteer Rifles in 1861, and the Royal Australian Artillery Band Brisbane will perform at the match at Bellingen Park on Saturday, February 28.

The following day, the musicians will add a pipes and drums section for a variety concert at C.ex Coffs starting at 11am.

Tickets are available from the club for $10.

During the week of the visit, the bands will be touring schools and community groups around the region delivering performances.

This year's clash between Australian Army Thunder and Bellinger Valley-Dorrigo Magpies will be the show-stopper at the end of a huge day of football at the historic "graveyard."

The undercard begins with North Coast and Northern Rivers Academy under-16/17s playing at 1.30pm, followed by an under-18 game between the Magpies and Macksville Sea Eagles.

The new-look Macksville first grade side will then make its first appearance under coach Aaron Wood, playing the curtain-raiser with Group 4 club Uralla.

Special guest for the weekend is the Governor of NSW, His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret'd).
