Centre to celebrate 14th birthday with big bash

FRESH local produce, hand-made cupcakes, pies and potted plants will be among the items on sale at tomorrow's Tom Quinn Community Centre's 14th Birthday Fair.

Outreach education and training manager Tom Osborne said they were expecting a decent crowd at the centre's grounds on Killer St from 8am-1pm.

"We've had a lot of interest and we're particularly looking forward to our produce sales,” he said.

"We've had a large number of local farmers donate produce to sell so we can put money back into the community.

"Plus the cafe's going to be open, we've got pizzas, we've got our famous pies and we've got beautiful cupcakes - I've just seen them coming off production and they look sensational.

"The nursery is chock-a-block with plants.

"We're looking forward to a great day.”

Mr Osborne said in the 14 years the Salvation Army facility had been running it had transformed the lives of thousands of people.

"To do that we need to be financially viable and this (the fair) helps,” he said.

Tomorrow's event will also provide an opportunity for community members to find out about the services the centre offers and check out its beautiful gardens.
