River Festival celebrating our heart
THE Bellingen River is the beating heart of arguably one of the most beautiful valleys on the Mid North Coast.
It is the life source for a rich diversity of agricultural and leisure activities. The river ranges from a trickle to a raging torrent that cuts communities in half yet brings them together.
The Bellingen River Festival began in 2011 to celebrate the beauty of the Bellinger River as well as to educate about the importance of maintaining its health.
While river health and broader environmental messages remain a focus, the Bellingen River Festival has evolved into a celebration of the community of Bellingen.
It all happens on Saturday down by the river at Jarrett Park, with a full day and evening of activities for all ages: music, food, entertainment and practical information and techniques on river health and individual ways we can be effectively water-wise on personal and commercial levels.
A highlight of the festival is the river crossing at sunset.
Drummers and samba dancers will lead nearly 2000 people, representing the Bellingen community, crossing to the south side of the bridge where the evening's festivities will begin.
Be there at sunset (from 6.30pm) on Saturday to watch or participate in this inspiring community parade.
Many favourite festival activities will be on offer, as well as a few surprise performances on both stages. Be sure to visit the new play zones (land and water) for the kids and support the canoe races. More info: bellingenriverfestival.org
