Super Fun Day a 90-year tradition
HANGOVER permitting, there is only one place to be tomorrow on New Year’s Day.
The Sawtell Super Fun Day has been held on the first day of the year for more than 90 years and is now a much-loved tradition for locals and visitors.
Initially, the day involved workers building the North Coast railway line but is now embraced by people from all walks of life.
The day kicks off at 9am with a 5.5km fun run in and around Sawtell.
There will be a procession down First Avenue at 10am that will head to the Sawtell Reserve for a host of events.
Included are woodchopping, and novelty races; carnival rides and market stalls; and plenty of food and drink.
A highlight of the Sawtell Super Fun Day is the announcement of the Sawtellian of the Year, which is scheduled to be made at 11.30am on the reserve.
