Celebrate 100 years

EVELYN Shaw will celebrate her 100th birthday on Saturday with her family and friends. Mrs Shaw was born on January 17, 1908, in Millthorpe.

One child of seven, Mrs Shaw spent her life as a housewife and mother.

On December 22, 1922, Evelyn Bowden married Christopher (Mick) Shaw who worked on the railway. With Mick, Mrs Shaw had six children, Marge, Laurie, Ron, Marlene, Barbara and Pam. In 1947 the young family moved to Coffs Harbour.

Mick worked on the railway, and the family were together all the time, except for Mick's six weeks of holidays a year when Mrs Shaw took the kids away so Mick could do jobs around the house.

On Saturday, Mrs Shaw's six children, 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and seven great great-grandchildren will join her at her home in Domain to celebrate the milestone. Mrs Shaw's remaining two sisters and one brother will also be joining her for the occasion.
