CBD attack: Woman arrested after violent altercation
POLICE are warning that bad behaviour will not be tolerated and those behaving inappropriately should expect police response after a violent altercation in the Mackay CBD at the weekend.
A 22-year-old Torquay woman was fined on the spot on Saturday when police saw her push another woman to the ground on Victoria Street.
Senior Constable Steve Smith said police were patrolling the CBD when they saw a woman fall to the ground after she was punched by the woman.
The 22-year-old woman was arrested and served an on-the-spot fine of $800 following for a public nuisance offence.
Snr Const Smith said the woman was also banned from the safe night precinct between 6pm and 6am until August 27.
No assault complaint was made by the victim involved.
"This was not an isolated incident with officers from across the district responding to about 15 incidents of public nuisance offences on Saturday and Sunday alone,” he said.
"These alleged incidents took place in Mackay City, Airlie Beach, East Mackay, North Mackay, West Mackay, South Mackay, and Moranbah.
"Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated by officers. Anyone behaving inappropriately in this fashion can expect a response from police.”
