Buenos Aires' underground eatery

BUENOS Aires is having its culinary coming of age and innovative trends in eating abound in this thriving, South American urban hotspot.

One of the hottest fads around is the guerilla dining movement, where underground eateries and off-the-beaten-path spots are flourishing in chef's homes throughout the city. Head intoBuenos Aires' Barrio Norte neighborhood and - possibly without knowing it at first - you'll find Casa Mun.

Like many closed-door spots here, Casa Mun is the work of one foodie expat sharing his own cultural background and unique culinary skills with lucky porteños.

Chef Mun - the man and namesake behind Casa Mun - grew his passion for food as a child in Korea and Hawaii where he, like so many talented cooks, learned to cook beside his mother. His CV includes time spent alongside an impressive list of Asian culinary masters, including celebrity Iron Chef Makota Okuwa.

It's no surprise then that at Chef Mun's underground space, an authentic and tasty mash-up of Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and Californian cuisines are impeccably paired with one-of-a-kind Argentine wines. Soba noodle soup in shiitake shoyu broth with bok choy, crispy wonton noodles and quail eggs is paired with a Rama Negra Sauvignon Blanc 2009. An AVE Premium Torrontés is served alongside Chilean salmon & Ecuadorian shrimp maki sushi and spicy tuna on pan-fried crispy rice.

Though fusion Asian cuisine has been on the rise in Buenos Aires, Casa Mun is a welcome addition to the closed-door scene and their mouth-watering five course tasting menu is definitely not something you'd easily find in this city.

So head underground and off-the-beaten-path for one of the best eating experiences in town; you won't regret it.
