Car hits Bonville cyclist

A PUSHBIKE rider is nursing his wounds after he came off second best from a highway smash at Coffs Harbour yesterday.

The Bonville man, 39, was riding his silver bike at the Mastracolas Road-Pacific Highway roundabout when he was struck by a maroon Hyundai Lantra at 8.20am.

The rider was flung onto the bonnet and then hurled into the windscreen – which shattered from the impact – before he landed on the road.

The cyclist was not as badly injured as police and paramedics had first feared.

He sustained cuts to his back and shoulder and was taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus. He was due to be released yesterday afternoon.

The Lantra was driven by a Coffs Harbour man, 48, who had his three children aboard.

Police inquiries continue.
