Canine friends keep owners fit
GETTING fit is about so much more than losing weight, so one Toowoomba gym has really expanded its offerings recently.
Willows Health and Lifestyle Centre group fitness instructor Rebecca Morgan said the centre looked at health from a different perspective to most gyms.
She said they recently launched the Wellbeing@Willows app, which not only allowed people to check their timetables and book classes, but also included monthly health campaigns, resources from experts and the ability to track progress.
Moving well beyond basic training regimes, the app provides videos, podcasts and other resources aimed at fitness, nutrition, social connections, finances and just about every element needed to create a happy and healthy lifestyle.
Last month's campaign was called "rejuvenate, re-energise and de-stress” and Miss Morgan said it brought up pets as a wonderful way to manage stress and get more exercise.
Another element was having active social connections, so it wasn't long before the team came up with the idea for a dog walking group.
It was so successful, plans were already afoot to make it a regular occurrence.
"It was a smaller group for our first attempt, but we've already had people contact us about the next one,” Miss Morgan said.
"We also got interest from people out in the park who saw the group walking and wanted to know more, so we're definitely thinking of having more down the track.”
