Cancer grants available

GRANTS to develop strategies to combat cancer are now available to Coffs Coast groups.

The NSW Cancer Council grants provide funding of up to $3000 to help communities address local cancer control needs and issues.

Cancer Council North Coast area manager, Patty Delaney, said the grants are available for non-government funded groups.

“There are many local needs for cancer control that cannot be identified and met from an area perspective and are more effectively identified by local people working in their community,” Ms Delaney said.

“The grants are available to cancer support groups, for projects working to support cancer patients in the community, and new initiatives to promote cancer prevention, screening, research or advocacy activities.”

Past grants include funding for sun protective shirts for the Titivators, funding for the Hope Bears Charity, which provides hand-made teddy bears to oncology patients, the creation of volunteer workbooks for the Coffs chapter of the National Association of Loss and Grief, and the construction of a shade structure for Dragons Abreast Coffs Harbour.

Community not-for-profit groups are encouraged to apply for a grant by contacting the Cancer Council regional office on 66515732 for a paper or electronic copy of the grant application forms.
