Can I get a pensioner discount, officer?

A 72-YEAR-OLD motorist allegedly caught driving at more than three times the legal limit asked police for a pensioner discount.

Kawana police allegedly observed the man driving "all over the road" as he headed south on the Nicklin Way at Currimundi on Monday night.

It took the man several kilometres before he noticed the police car following him with its lights and sirens blazing. When he was breath-tested, he allegedly blew 0.150%.

After being told his licence was to be immediately suspended until his court date because of the high reading, the man repeatedly asked for a discount on his fine because of his seniors' status. The request was denied.

Senior Sergeant Ian Hasted said if the threat of killing someone was not enough to stop people from drink-driving, "maybe they should think of their wallet".

"A taxi home is far cheaper than the fine and loss of licence," he said.
