Calls to investigate pollution at Never Never

BELLINGEN Environment Centre is calling a moratorium on all logging operations until a full investigation into pollution at Never Never Creek has been conducted.

The Forestry Corporation NSW was fined $15,000 last week after it failed to properly implement sediment and erosion controls at Tuckers Nob State Forest during plantation re-establishment work in February, which resulted in sediment polluting the creek after heavy rain.

A Forestry Corporation spokeswoman said the corporation had conducted a through investigation into the incident.

"We thoroughly investigated this incident undertaking a root-cause analysis to ensure improvements in our plantation operating procedures were identified and implemented so that this type of incident would not occur again," she said.

The spokeswoman said the large rain event took place and sediment washed into the waterway before the corporation could re-establish the plantation after harvesting.
