Calling all football fanatics for futsal

SPORTZ Central manager Adrian Pickup is about to re-double efforts to get Coffs Harbour into the Vikings Futsal program.

The centre hosted a premier league round on the weekend with Coffs teams playing under invitation against indoor footballers battle-hardened in the National League and international competition.

“The reason we put the exhibition on was to show first-hand how good the sport is for players and what a fantastic spectacle it is for crowds,” Pickup said.

“Those who watched the matches can now see the potential for this level of futsal five years down the track and now we're keen to get moving on building the team structure as quickly as possible.”

Coffs Harbour teams have a firm invitation to participate in a carnival at Alstonville on November 16 and are seeking a berth at the Grafton round on November 30.

“To make us eligible, three more teams are required,” Pickup advised.

“We intend to play under the name of Coffs Harbour Vikings Phoenix and interested players should turn up at Sportz Central any Wednesday at 6.45pm or contact us on 6651 2501 during the day.”

Northern New South Wales Vikings Futsal co-ordinator Tanya Bond said the organisation is keen to get Coffs Harbour into the league as a full member.

“There are still a few issues that need to be smoothed but once that happens, it will be a major step forward,” she said.
