Call to help ensure future of our oasis

THE green oasis that is the Bellingen Showground needs your input.

After much hard work and the help of consultant Kym Shelton, the Showground Trust is now ready for public input into plans for the future of the well-used community facility.

“Once we have the plan, we can apply for bigger grants to undertake the expensive upgrades,” Trust president Tim Leader said.

“The grounds are used by so many groups - TAFE, art classes, karate, pony club, festivals ... and the costs keep going up. There is also pressure on us to be a caravan park.”

The main community meeting will be held next Thursday, 7.30pm in the Luncheon Pavilion.

Participants can register with Richard Holloway by ringing 6658 9400.

Earlier in the week there will be separate meetings for other user groups:

Agriculture (Monday, 6.30pm), Events (Tuesday, 12.30-2pm), Education/Youth (Tuesday 6.30pm), Equestrian (Wednesday, 6.30pm).

Secretary Caroline Joseph said North Bellingen is “growing like topsy” and with only a handful of volunteers, having a plan done and signed by the minister was vital for the future of the facility.

“We want to see the showground used - we want people to come and tell us their ideas.”
