Call for major meeting

DOES the Coffs Coast have the infrastructure, appeal and community support to become an education hub for Indian students?

That was the question put to Member for Coffs Harbour Andrew Fraser yesterday as he attempted to add political weight to the concept.

“Coffs Harbour’s campus of the Southern Cross University already has residential accommodation for international students and more accommodation is in the process of being built,” Mr Fraser said.

“From the discussions I have been involved in with Indian leaders I believe the university and our TAFE college certainly has the capacity to accommodate an intake of Indian students.”

Mr Fraser said while the proposal had merits, a major meeting between all the interested parties would need to take place prior to the expected visit of Indian High Commissioner to the region in March.

“It’s a matter of making sure we have a proper plan in place, there is no use in a delegation just visiting India and saying ‘here we are give us your students’,” he said.
