Cahill wonder strike not enough to down Dutch

THE Socceroos have put in a brave performance against the Netherlands, going down 3-2 in the FIFA World Cup in Porto Alegre.

The Australians went down 1-0 early in the first half but equalised soon after when Tim Cahill slammed home a stunning goal.

Skipper Mile Jedinak put the Socceroos in front with a second half penalty, but two goals in less than 10 minutes sealed the Netherlands' victory.

The gutsy loss all but ends Australia's World Cup hopes.

They will be without Cahill for their final match against Spain after the star striker received his second yellow card of the group round.
