Coffs Harbour Bypass action planned in 2017

ROADS and Maritime Services has released the latest update on planning for the Coffs Harbour bypass project.

A key feature is an interactive map giving Coffs Coast residents and motorists a real insight in the preferred route for the Pacific Hwy deviation.

The update provides information on work to refine the concept design and prepare the Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed 14km upgrade of the Pacific Highway from Englands Rd in the south to the new four-lane divided highway at Sapphire in the north.

"Planning for the upgrade has been moving forward with the display of the preliminary concept design from 2008 for community feedback during August and September this year. There was a strong response from the community with about 400 people attending the community drop-in sessions and many written responses received," Member for Coffs Harbour Andrew Fraser said.

"The update provides information about a business and community survey launched recently to help understand the benefits and impacts associated with the Coffs Harbour bypass.

Survey responses will help inform the traffic and transport investigations and the social impact assessment required for the Environmental Impact Statement.

"Feedback received on the preliminary concept design will also be considered as part of the development of the Environmental Impact Statement.

An interactive map is also available on Roads and Maritime's website and shows the boundaries of the project corridor, proposed interchange locations and the proposed tunnels or cuttings and enables the community to have a say on these further design options.

Roads and Maritime will continue to refine the concept design and prepare the Environmental Impact Statement, with the refined concept design expected to be displayed for feedback mid next year.

Community consultation will be sought on the Environmental Impact Statement after all feedback has been considered and investigations and field work completed.

Building timeframes for the bypass have not been determined and will depend on funding availability.

A Community Feedback Summary has been listed on the RMS website along with a Business Survey.
