Busy year for demolition business

AARVBEE Demolitions and Recyclers is a Coffs Coast success story.

The firm - a mainstay of the local business scene for 16 years - has had a bumper 2011, with as many as 16 demolition jobs up and down the North Coast.

Demolitions account for 50% of their work, while the other half is comprised of scrap metal and recycling.

"We've been extremely busy this year.

"Business is great and we are flat out in every direction," said Aarvbee director and owner Bob Bell.

"I believe that's because we deal mostly in low-cost items and in the case of scrap metal we are giving people money for their goods and that's creating an incentive for them.

"Also, we pay the best prices we can and that helps our customers dispose of items that might have been hanging around their backyards or sheds for a long time."

Mr Bell said the reason his business formula worked was the locations at Fraser Drive and Englands Road in Coffs Harbour and Short Cut Rd at Raleigh were complementary.

"All of our demolition materials finish up being recycled at Eng- lands Rd and Raleigh.

"They're the drop-off centres for people's unwanted recyclable goods and that's a free service for those items.

"Fraser Drive is a point of purchase for scrap metal and also we dismantle and sell car parts here.

"It's also our main office and administration area.

"What happens at the other two yards is we take people's unwanted goods and re-sell them to people - it can be whitegoods, it can be building materials."

Aarvbee Demolitions and Recyclers has a 20-strong workforce.
