Busy CHY needs a new mixer
COFFS Harbour’s favourite local radio station CHY needs the community’s support to continue educating future radio stars.
The training studio has been taken over by on-air staff, now station manager Becky Cole wants to invest in a new mixing table.
“We need a lot of new equipment but if we could just get the new mixer that would be a great start,” Miss Cole said.
The studios are in high demand with the new training program that runs on Sundays being packed by teenagers and adults. When enrolments opened, it took only two days to fill the classes.
The course is an introduction to radio and broadcasting with volunteer trainer Alan Manuel. The budding disc jockeys learn how to read on air, operate a radio panel, microphone techniques and much more to prepare them for the world of radio broadcasting.
They will also get to create their own demo tape to add to a portfolio.
Once completing the course, CHY offers graduates the chance to become presenters on the community radio station.
“There are not many places that do what we do,” Miss Cole said.
CHY began in 1973 and since then has committed to the development of self esteem, communication skills and community spirit in its trainees starting at the age of 13.
Miss Cole welcomes any donations to help CHY reach their goal of $5000.
