Busking double dose
MARKET BUSKING: The Harbourside Markets at Coffs Harbour Jetty are on board for the Coffs Harbour International Buskers Festival.
ONE venue delighted with the new format for this year's Coffs Harbour International Buskers and Comedy Festival is the Harbourside Markets at Coffs Jetty.
As soon as news of the local buskers day was announced, market organiser Kim Towner got in touch with the festival and pitched for the event.
"We have entertainers here every Sunday and it's just a right mix for us to host a local buskers day," Kim said.
The market has always been a popular spot for the buskers with weekend crowds flocking there.
It didn't take long for an agreement to be nutted out and the Harbourside Markets will host the local buskers day on Sunday, September 20.
"We have had six to seven approaches already. As well as musicians and one didgeridoo player, there has been an approach from a local circus group and a Bellingen-based 40-piece samba ensemble, and more are expected," festival organiser John Logan said.
"With a full program of acts, it looks like the market will most likely host up to a dozen acts and over 60 performers, all local, on that day.
"This is a fantastic response and offers a showcase for local acts. It will guarantee a strong day for the market and yes, you do need to have public liability insurance but that's the case with any public performance in an open space."
Organisers are sitting on several more surprises for the day including a one-off special with an act from the original festival in 1989.
The market will host Australian and international acts performing on Sunday, September 27.
