Burnouts make long-awaited return to Proston
Rally: If you're stuck for ideas on what to do this weekend, consider getting out to the Proston Car Rally.
The two-day event features khanacross and burnout scrutineering, and promises to offer something for everyone.
Proston Rally Club member Aimee Persal said a field of 35 - including drivers from Hervey Bay, Bundaberg and Brisbane - would rip around the 2km-long, unsealed dirt surface behind the wheel of a host of vehicles, including; Falcons, Commodores, Buggies and Lancers.
"We run on different tracks over the two-day event to allow drivers to test their skill and improve their times,” Persal said.
"It's a great event for people to get involved in, as drivers as young as 12 can start competing.
"This is great because it allows teenagers and young adults to learn the basics of operating a motor vehicle in a safe environment.
"There aren't many events like this held in the area so it's something different for people to come and enjoy.”
After considerable behind-the-scenes effort, the Rally Club - now in its 25th year - is excited to finally be able to bring burnouts back to the South Burnett.
"It's been great to see that we have so much support behind bringing the burnouts back to Proston after so many years of them not being run,” Persal said.
"It's been a lot of hard work to bring them back but I'm sure everyone involved will agree it's been worth it.”
Free camping facilities including toilets and hot showers are available. The Proston Rally Track is located at 757 Proston Boondooma Road.
