Burnoffs planned on Coffs Coast

FORESTS NSW will be burning windrows throughout Pine Creek, Tuckers Nob and Newry State Forests over the next couple of weeks.

“This windrow burning is part of the second rotation plantation establishment and is a vital part of our fuel reduction strategy,” said Forests NSW northern region operations forester Aaron Simmon.

The planned windrow burning area for March is as follows.

compartments 29 and 30 Pine Creek State Forest: Gleniffer – off Gleniffer Road;

compartments 44 and 45 Pine Creek State Forest: off Slarkes Road;

compartment 74 Tuckers Nob State Forest: Chimney Road – Box Trees Road; and

compartment 271 and 273 Newry State Forest: Rocky Wharf Road.

Other areas may become available as part of this program later in the year.

“Direct neighbours of these compartments will be notified at least one day before we burn off,” Mr Simmon said.

“Sufficient Forests NSW staff and plant will be in attendance to ensure the fires are contained.

“Forests NSW will only burn off under suitable conditions and will continue to patrol these areas until they are deemed safe.

While a number of areas are planned for burning, not all planned burns are carried out each year.
