Burnett, Bull in show of strength at canoe grand prix
CANOE: Sunshine Coast duo Alyce Burnett and Alyssa Bull have led the charge among paddlers at a lead-up event to the national team selection trials.
The Rio Olympians from the Sunshine Coast impressed at the Oceania Championships Grand Prix 2, at Sydney.
The meet was a chance to test their wares and to secure berths at the selection trials, which will be held at Sydney next month. And Burnett and Bull were highly impressive.
"The other girls are pushing us hard and it's never an easy win, but it's always good to come home with a couple of wins," Burnett said in an Australian Caneoing press release.
"The girls in Australia have done a huge step up so you certainly can't be complacent. We've had some fast racing over the weekend and we're looking forward to seeing what we can do at selection trials next and then on the international stage.
"With the international season in mind, we are trying not to totally peak for this event or selection trials but that aside we are producing some really good times in training as well."
Burnett won the K1 200 and the K2 500 with Bull. She also won the K1 500, ahead of Bull. But Bull won the K1 1000, ahead of Burnett. The two of them were in the K4 500 crew which also claimed success.
It's all part of the lengthy build-up to Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
