Bulldogs appoint McCartney

THE Western Bulldogs have appointed Brendan McCartney as the club's senior coach for the next three years.

Following the recommendation by the club's coaching selection committee, the Bulldogs have put their faith in the hands of last year's AFL Assistant Coach of the Year.

McCartney joins the Bulldogs after the club sacked long-term coach Rodney Eade earlier in the year.

Amassing 22 years of coaching experience, McCartney joins the Bulldogs from Essendon, where he was an assistant under the regime of James Hird.

However, the club will be hoping McCartney draws inspiration from his successful years at Geelong to guide the Bulldogs back to the top of the premiership.

During his 11 years as the at the Geelong Football Club, McCartney was involved in two premierships, two night premierships and experienced three grand finals.

McCartney said he was honoured by his appointment and was looking forward to the challenge ahead.

"I can't wait to get into this, and I can't wait for us to confirm our place as a footy club that is respected, admired and feared," he said.

Western Bulldogs Chief Executive Simon Garlick said McCartney's experience and will to win would soon transform the Bulldogs back into a title-fighting outfit.

"Brendan's experience, leadership, technical capacity, values and integrity shone through-out the robust and intensive selection process started by the Club four weeks ago," Garlick said.

"There is no coincidence that Brendan has been associated with premierships wherever he has gone - he is an outstanding, competitive individual who knows how to win".
