Beauty not fazed by geek loss

COMING out of Beauty and the Geek Australia without winning the competition has not dampened Ellynie-May Rasborsek’s spirits. Not in the slightest.

The ever-bubbly 20-year-old Grafton girl missed out on winning the series by one vote and the $50,000 that comes with the title.

However that didn’t bother her. Ellynie-May insists she was never in it for the money.

“I told myself from the beginning that making the top three would be a bonus and I got there. I am proud of what I did in the show and learnt so much,” she said.

Ellynie-May said she was happy with how she was presented on the small screen.

“I’m not embarrassed at all because that’s just me. What people saw is what I am like. It was weird for people to come up to me though and say that I am the ‘smart one’. That has never been said to me before in my life,” she said.

The winner of the series, Jessie, along with Ellynie-May’s geek, Marlon, are now two of her best friends and she hopes to get a few of the contestants to the Clarence Valley for her 21st birthday celebrations in May.

“The saddest part about the show was not that I didn’t win. It was that it ended. Everyone lives so far away so I miss them all so much. But we all email each other pretty regularly.”

Ellynie-May was also proud to have used the show to do some community work.

“I am really proud of the fundraising premiere at Roches on the first night of the show. Leanne and Richard at Roches did such an amazing job. It was loads of fun and I think I raised about a grand for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter,” she said.

Ellynie-May has no idea what she is going to do in the immediate future.

“I worked in India last year and then came home and got a couple of part-time jobs. Then Beauty and the Geek came up, so maybe I’ll get lucky again. I’d love to work in television.”
