Criminals at large after assault

THREE men are still at large following the serious assault of a 51-year-old man at his South Grafton home on Monday night.

Yesterday police crime scene tape and a forensic services group van outside a home on Bent Street at South Grafton were obvious indicators to the public something sinister had occurred.

Police were called to the house at 11am yesterday where the man had been assaulted by three men between 10pm and 2am.

In a prepared statement, police said the man was was hit over the head by the men with an object and repeatedly punched.

He was taken to Grafton Base hospital suffering serious head injuries where he remained last night in a serious but stable condition.

A crime scene was established at the home, while forensic officers and detectives scoured the scene for evidence as they tried to piece together how the horrific events unfolded.

Police investigations into the matter were continuing as The Daily Examiner went to press.

Anyone with information is urged to phone Grafton Police on 6642 0222 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
