IF YOU'VE stayed under the doona so far this winter, here's a great reason to get out and about.

Our mornings may be chilly - but as this Emerald Beach image by the Advocate's chief photographer Trevor Veale shows - they are also breathtakingly beautiful.

Our coldest morning of 2014 was last Friday when the temperature dropped to 2.1 degrees at Coffs Harbour airport and even lower in our hinterland, where frosts are now regular.

But if you've been feeling cold with thermometers struggling to reach double digits at night, spare a thought for our friends out west.

Armidale's mean minimum this winter is just 1.3 degrees and last week it dipped to minus 7.3 degrees.

HOW COLD WAS IT AT YOUR PLACE THIS MORNING?
