Byron Bay runner takes bronze in NSW marathon championships

BYRON BAY Runners representative Caroline Bailey has claimed a bronze medal in the NSW marathon championships.

She was one of 10 club members to travel to compete in the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival.

Lining up in cool conditions in the half-marathon (21.1km) and full marathon (42.2km) events, Byron runners competed against top national and international distance runners on courses running across the Harbour Bridge (the only day in the year it is closed to traffic) and finishing on the steps of the Opera House.

The event also incorporated the NSW titles and Athletics Australia national marathon championships.

Shaunagh Cassidy finished 30th overall in the half-marathon, winning her age division and clocking a time four minutes faster than at the NSW masters championships last month.

Others ran personal best times in the half-marathon.

The weekend is also one of the club's major social events, with members, their partners and families enjoying post-run recovery dinners and rehydration.
