Broncos' favourite son heads to the South Burnett

ONE of Queensland's greatest rugby league stars is on his way to the South Burnett.

Brisbane Broncos legend Allan 'Alfie' Langer will be in Nanango for the upcoming Intrust Super Cup Country Round on Sunday, July 21.

Langer will also be the special guest at the Sportsmans Dinner at the Nanango RSL the night before the clash.

"I am looking forward to coming up to the Nanango RSL to enjoy the Intrust Super Cup and enjoy the good night out," Langer said.

With more than 250 games for the Brisbane Broncos, 34 games for Queensland and 24 games for Australia under his belt, Langer's sporting career will go down as one of the greatest of all time.

At 52, he is still heavily involved in the game he loves as part of the Broncos coaching staff, and sometimes forgets he is no longer one of the players.

"Even at the game, I keep calling for the ball but they don't pass it to me," Langer said.

These days, the former State of Origin star classes himself as a humble water boy, and while he still trains, he doesn't try to keep up with the current players.

"They are far too much for me," he said.

"I just do it on my own and I can go as hard or as soft as I want to go."

Lovable larrikin Langer balances his training with his love of a cold beer and a laugh with mates.

"As everyone knows, I enjoy a drink and a good time," he said.

"But on the other side, you have to eat well, you've got to have a balance."

He said he felt fortunate to still be involved with the Broncos and the Queensland sides.

"Being on the ground and still running around, it is a great feeling," Langer said.

"It's the best place to watch the game."

"I don't get sore, I don't have to make a tackle or get tackled which is fantastic."

Limited tickets are available for the Sportsman's Dinner where you will get the chance to meet the man who some class as the greatest halfback to ever play the game.
