Bro code smashed

A MAN was lucky to walk away from a serious accident in Park Beach Road early yesterday, after taking a mate’s ute without permission and wrapping it around a telegraph pole.

Police allege the 29-year-old stole the 2002 model V8 Holden Commodore ute from a Beryl Street address where he had been drinking about 11.30pm.

The owner of the vehicle told police he had gone to bed and had not given his friend permission to use the vehicle.

Crash scene investigations showed the man drove at considerable speed in Phillip Street, accelerated harshly around the corner into Park Beach Road and lost control of the vehicle about 12.30am.

After the vehicle lost traction, it skidded 54 metres along the roadway, spun 180 degrees and crashed into the pole on the southern kerb.
