UPDATE: A passing motorist pulled a 51-year-old man from his ute after it plunged into the cold waters of the Brisbane River on Tuesday morning.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedic Peter Batt said a minor medical condition caused the driver to pass out at the wheel of his vehicle about 6.45am, as he travelled along Kingsford Smith Drive in Hamilton.

The ute crossed a number of lanes and travelled several metres into the water before sinking.

"I was heading into the city just near Breakfast Creek turn off and he just came straight across and then next thing he was in the water," Mark said

"Trucks and cars were stopping everywhere to rush over."
