A BRISBANE man fighting against Islamic State in the Middle East refuses to return to Australia until the terrorist group is stopped.

Ashley Dyball, also known as Mitchell Scott, is believed to have joined a Kurdish militia group in the past month.

Friends and family have pleaded with Mr Dyball to return home, but the Albany Creek man asked them on Wednesday to understand his "life decision".

"I can sit at home doing nothing with myself or I can stay here and help liberate the innocent children and women to give them a better chance at life that we all so luckily have," Mr Dyball wrote on Facebook.

"The shit you see here is nothing like you see on the bias news reports, the Islamic state must be stopped and if it means I can't come home f--- it."
