CHRIS Atkinson stands as the Australian WRC hope at Coates Hire Rally Australia.

Piloting a Hyundai i20, the 34-year-old Bega-born former stockbroker doesn't have any previous experience on the Coffs Coast's gravel stages, but reckons just competing on home soil will stand him in good stead.

"For sure, I want to be well up in the points and you never know what can happen," he said.

Chris and other WRC drivers will attend tomorrow afternoon's Rally Show in the Coffs Harbour city centre in a chance for fans to meet with the fastest drivers in the rally world.

The rally action gets under way on the opening stage at Gleniffer on Friday just after 9am.
