Bright idea gives reason to smile
BRIGHT and colourful are not words usually associated with hospital surgical gowns.
But these creative creations certainly caught the eye of young patient Alec Hill at Coffs Harbour Base Hospital.
The hospital's paediatric ward now has 24 colourful children's gowns sewn and donated by Northern Beaches Care, a ministry of All Nations Church at Woolgoolga.
Northern Beaches Care co-ordinator Pam Thomas said the donation was a partnership between the opportunity shop and the church's ladies group.
“Northern Beaches Care funded it through the op shop and the ladies group got together to sew the gowns,” Mrs Thomas said.
“Some children are in hospital for a while and time passes slowly. We thought it would help brighten children's days.”
The gowns were sewn to meet hospital standards using colourful ‘kiddie prints' supplied at a discounted price by Spotlight.
Northern Beaches Care is a practical arm of the All Nations Church at Woolgoolga.
Mrs Thomas said with times being hard, many people had been using their services.
“We provide free bread and soup daily at the op shop in Nightingale St, and a free sit-down two-course dinner on Wednesday evenings at the church in Landrigan Close,” she said.
