Road closed after bridge collapse

UPDATE 5PM: A SECTION of Central Bucca Rd will be closed from 6.30pm tonight until 1am to accommodate the movements of a crane associated with the installation of a temporary bridge at Mount Coramba Forest Rd.

The closed section will start at Sealy Lookout on Bruxner Park Rd and extend to the northern side of Powicks Bridge on Central Bucca Rd between Mardells and Wear Roads.

Traffic control will be installed at the junction of the Pacific Hwy and Bruxner Park Rd and the other side of Powick's Bridge to warn motorists of the closure.

 

6AM: RESIDENTS on Mt Coramba Forest Rd have had their access cut to a rough fire trail after a bridge collapsed yesterday.

A mobile crane crashed into a creek after the wooden bridge it was crossing couldn't handle the weight of the vehicle.

Fire and Rescue teams attended the scene and deployed booms into the creek to stop diesel and oil seeping into the water.

A temporary bridge will be in place within 3-4 days and affected residents have alternative access via MacNamara's Forest Road off Weirs Road.

The Coffs Harbour City Council is currently looking at its Timber Bridge Program to see when works on a new bridge can be scheduled.
