UPDATE, MONDAY 3PM: The 49-year-old who tragically lost his life after his car crashed into a tree on the Summerland Way last Wednesday, April 13 was Kevin Wooster.
Police have not confirmed where Mr Wooster was from. It is believed Mr Wooster was associated with Macksville High School.
UPDATE, 2PM WEDNESDAY, APRIL 13: A MAN has died after his car crashed into a tree on the Summerland Way this morning.
The 49-year-old, believed to be from the Kyogle area, was found trapped and unconscious in the Silver Commodore by a passer-by about 7am.
Coffs/Clarence police Inspector Jo Reid said investigators were trying to piece together the 49-year-old's movements prior to the collision, but believe he may have been trapped for close to an hour before being found.
Emergency services extracted him from the car and he was driven by paramedics to Whiporie, where the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter was meant to land.
Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries en route to the helicopter and was taken to Grafton Base Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
It is the fourth death on Clarence Valley roads in as many months.
UPDATE, 11.50AM: SUMMERLAND Way is now closed in both directions at Dilkoon as investigations continue into a serious crash this morning.
Motorists travelling in both directions have been advised to use the Bruxner Highway and the Pacific Highway as alternative routes.
The Daily Examiner is awaiting an update on the condition of the patient, who was flown to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

UPDATE, 9.40AM: A patient is being flown to Gold Coast Hospital following a serious car accident on the Summerland Way north of Grafton.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service was alerted for assistance at 7.40am this morning. The Northern Region base responded by sending its medical team by road due to its helicopter being offline for maintenance, and at the same the Tamworth branch activated its helicopter which attended the scene.
"The Tamworth team has come through to take the patient and transport the patient to Gold Coast Hospital," Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Northern Region crew chief Roger Fry said.
UPDATE, 8.20AM: Persons are trapped following a serious car accident at Dilkoon 20km north of Grafton on the Summerland Way.
According to Live Traffic NSW, who reported the accident at 7.21am, traffic is affected in both directions and motorists are advised to expect delays and exercise caution.
Emergency services and local council are attending the scene.
EARLIER: Coffs-Clarence Police are warning people travelling on the Summerland Way this morning to be aware of a serious motor vehicle accident.
The accident is approximately 20km north of Grafton at Clifden Road in the Dilkoon area.
The southbound lane is closed, emergency services are on the scene and the rescue helicopter may be attending.
"Please be aware if travelling in the area that emergency services may still be en route to the scene and traffic movements will be affected around that area for some time yet," a police spokesperson said.
